Lamma Tree

Lamma Tree

This is one of my favorite trees on Lamma Island, the Banyan. The Chinese name is 榕树 róngshù,(Yungshue in Cantonese) and our local village Yongshuwan (Banyan Bay) is named after the tree
Lamma Island is a peaceful and healthy place to live, despite the efforts of the locals to destroy parts of it with unnecessary engineering work. The hills allow good views of nearby Hong Kong island and shipping, and the beaches are clean enough to swim in most of the year, despite the large amount of rubbish that washes up on them. There is very little motorised transport on the island. This photo was taken on 2011-08-14 at Lamma Island, Hong Kong
